Throughout the world, there are millions of mile of pipeline that carry everything from water to crude oil. Pipe systems are vulnerable to internal and external corrosion, cracking, third party damage and manufacturing flaws. Inspection of oil transporting pipelines is crucial within the oil industry.
Target inspections are mainly corrosion deposits and weldings. In an attempt to keep pipelines operating safely, periodic inspections are performed to find flaws before they become problematic. When a pipeline is built, inspection personnel may use visual, X ray, magnetic particles, ultrasonic and other advanced inspection methods (Advanced NDT) to evaluate and assess the integrity of the pipe.
